Kahi Malu

The Peaceful Place

Master Bedroom with King

Description

Kahi Malu is a two-bedroom, one-bath cottage in Volcano Village, on a quiet one-lane road. This spacious and comfortable guest cottage has room for a family of five but is also well-suited for couples or singles. Kahi Malu has its own parking space off the driveway.

The entry ramp leads up to the covered front porch, which has a built-in bench for guests to use for removing shoes, island-style, before entering the cottage or putting them back on, when heading back out. We offer umbrellas for guests to use on those rainy Volcano days. The front porch is also the designated smoking area for guests who choose to smoke.

The cottage has koa floors throughout, with Egyptian-loomed area rugs, a bound carpet in the dining area, and numerous custom built-ins.

The bathroom has a low-walled sitz bathtub/shower and was renovated in 2009.

The built-in living room entertainment unit houses a cable TV, a DVD player with a collection of movies and documentaries about the Park on DVD, a mini-stereo with an iPod cradle, an eclectic collection of CDs, drawing supplies, small toys, and games.

There is a well-equipped kitchen, renovated in 2011, with an adjacent dining area.

The living area has a queen-sized futon couch, two comfortable rattan armchairs, with small tables, and a propane heat stove. We offer gloves and headlamps for guests’ use, as well as house slippers, disinfected between guests’ use.

The master bedroom has a very comfortable cal-king bed, with built-in headboard and side tables, and, at the opposite end of that room, a built-in daybed, beside the electric baseboard heater.

In the middle of the master bedroom is a built-in desk and shelving unit.

Accessed from the master bedroom is a spacious covered lanai, with built-in benches and a dining table at one end and a sofa with low table, at the other end; there are stairs to the ground, off the lanai.

The second bedroom has a comfortable queen-sized bed with built-in head board and side tables and an electric baseboard heater.

The entire interior was repainted, with a new board-and-batten ceiling installed, in a January 2018 renovation.

Lush landscaping outside shelters Kahi Malu, a restful home base for exploring the Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park!
